FFG Impact Innovation Project

Alternative Lab for Future Skills

[August 2023 - August 2024] In order to meet the challenges of today - and those of the future - as a society and as individuals, we need future skills. These are skills that we need for our working and professional lives, that enable us to participate in society and that allow us to actively shape our own living environments and ultimately our futures. Digital and technological skills as well as the STEM competences that are in demand are already anchored in the curricula and are already being taught to the youngest members of society. Learning and innovation skills, or 4Cs - cooperation, communication, creativity and critical thinking - are also important pillars of our future skills. It is obvious that we need these skills in all areas of life and at all ages. Nevertheless, there is often a lack of comprehensive concepts, suitable formats and spaces to learn and apply them.

Our personal experience and publications from various areas of research show that the positive effects of manual activities can open up new potential in this area. With this in mind, we want to develop new methods and formats for learning and applying ‘learning and innovation skills’ in this project together with a multidisciplinary group of stakeholders in an open innovation process.
